New Member Welcome Letter
Dear Interested Runner,
We are glad you may be interested in joining the Greater Philadelphia TC (GPTC). We
are always looking for runners who wish to join a track club with the thought of competing
for a team at a local, regional and national level. GPTC was established in 2003(as
Philadelphia Athletic Charities TC) by a few of us who competed in high school/college track
and cross country and still had the passion to continue to compete even though we were in
our 40s.
GPTC focuses on competing in various disciplines of running which include track, cross
country, off road and road races. Since the track club was formed in 2003, we have
competed in the USATF Grand Prix Road Circuit, the USATF Off Road Ciruit, the Penn
Relays (Master 4 x 400), the USATF National Master Cross Country Championships, Boston
Marathon Team Championship, Philadelphia Distance Run Team Championship, the
Philadelphia Masters Indoor and Outdoor Track Series, Cross Country Champs at Van
Cortland Park (NY City).
Even though most of the members of GPTC are master male and female distance runners,
we are also looking for younger open runners to assemble teams for Open Championship
events. We also have a member who is a racewalker and are looking on recruiting more
racewalkers to the team who would compete for USATF titles. GPTC has won or placed
high in all of the Mid Atlantic USATF Race Series (Road, Off Road and Cross Country)
since 2003. We also have a few of our members on the Long Distance Committee of the
USATF Mid Atlantic.
Team Workouts Our members live in all areas of the Delaware Valley and train mostly on
our own and meet assemble at the races but we do organize 1x a week for either cross
country, indoor or outdoor track at Belmont Plateau, Lower Merion track, Roxborough High
School track, Wissahickon Track and long runs on the Valley Green trail. Meeting spots
and workouts are planned on a weekly basis and dependent on the season of where we
meet. Chuck Shields organizes weekly workouts and will inform those interested on a
weekly e mail.
Talent Level GPTC members tend to be at the higher end of the performance level and
take their sport seriously. Even though we do socialize on occasion, the club was formed
primarily for training and competition. We recruit all ages but we are looking for runners
who are wishing to compete at a high level and not so much as just a social club. If you are
looking to compete and improve your performance, we may be the club for you.
If you are interested in joining the club, please download and fill out the GPTC
membership form and send form with payment to Greater Philadelphia TC, 1500 Ferndale
Rd, Abington,Pa 19001. We are a Mid Atlantic-USATF club and all members need to keep
up their USATF membership each year to be eligible to run on the track club. Please go to
the GPTC membership page for directions to sign up for a Mid Atlantic USATF membership.
Our team colors are Red, White and Blue. The singlets are blue/white. All club members
may purchase a team singlet. Contact Chuck Shields on purchasing a team singlet.
If you have any questions, please call Chuck Shields at 215 659 3846 or e mail him at

Take care and good luck with your training and racing this year.
